Wearing a watch?

Do you wear a watch?

I used to think having and wearing a watch was a given. I’ve owned a dozen or so already and still own a couple. I’ve always had a nice digital watch for everyday wear, a nice analog watch for special occasions and a couple “fun” watches.

When we started going green I committed to not buying a new watch and I gave away almost all of my watches. I kept a nice dress up watch the J. gave me and a nice digital watch that I “stole” from Jeff. It’s actually a heart monitor watch so if I ever get into exercising again it will come in handy. I started wearing the nice watch everyday since the digital watch is HUGE (it was meant for a man after all) and wasn’t really appropriate for work. But gradually I stopped wearing that on weekends and then it seemed I was leaving it off more and more. Until one day I put it on and noticed that it had stopped working, I assume it’s the battery. I simply put it away in the drawer. I suppose its not very green to have it just sitting there but it was a gift from J. and I do love it. I don’t seem myself giving it away any time soon.

Now I don’t wear a watch and I can’t remember why I felt it so necessary before. I carry a cell phone most of the time and it tells the time as does my computer and TV. In fact we don’t really have any clocks anymore. We have a clock radio that sits unplugged in my office until I use it for the radio and a clock we received as a wedding present in the living room. We both use our cell phones as alarm clocks so we don’t even need one in the bedroom. Occasionally it’s disconcerting, I don’t have an innate sense of time, so I’ll completely lose track if I’m cleaning or cooking but most of the time I like it. I feel more calm whereas before if I had a watch I felt compelled to check the time almost constantly. I think it becomes a habit, you know just glance at your wrist. Whereas, with my cell phone I have to find it, put in the password and then see the time. I think that’s more effort than knowing what time it is is worth.

So it made me curious, do you wear a watch or do you go without?

Without a watch for close to 8 years. Without a cell phone for the past 3, except the AT&T GoPhone I share with my wife, she carries it 90% of the time and me 5%. Our most used clock is a 80 year old 30 day wind up one.

Haven’t worn one for years (and years). I think there is one somewhere at the back of a drawer but it hasn’t worked in ages. I prefer not to know mostly. It’s only important on work days anyhow. There is one on the microwave I use for timing bread etc and one in the livingroom just because it had to go somewhere and the cellphone alarm is the only really important one.

nope – haven’t worn one since university – 5 years ago… didn’t need it – and now that I have a cell phone (purchased 4 years ago) I don’t have a bedside clock either – although my husband has one.

Haven’t worn a watch for about 5 years. I was obsessed with time. Sometimes I would even look at my watch and not recall what I had just read. It was purely habit. Now I have found that I have slowed down for the better, and the day just goes the way it needs to be. If I need to be somewhere important, I set the alarm on my mobile phone just like you.

I don’t wear a watch either. I think it has been 10 years now since I use my cell phone as my clock, alarm, flaslight and lifesaver. That was before my iPhone -ha!

I have a watch, but the battery kept running out. I liked wearing it, it was somehow comforting. I have a mobile phone (UK lingo) with the time on it, and usually use that, or the computer clock when I’m at work. I tend to try and switch off on weekends, because the time just drains away before I have to get back to work…

I have a watch, a solid gold one which was a very special present…

I do NOT use it everyday though

I carry a mobile phone, anf set the alarm on that if I have to be somewhere on time…otherwise I just go by the position of the sun and if my stomach says it is nearly lunch or tea time! ( works quite well, that does…)

    Hello šŸ™‚

I have a watch in a drawer that I haven’t worn regularly since I last was in employment, which is about eight years ago now. I put it on occasionally if I have a train or (in the past) a plane to catch as I get a bit nervous about losing track of time since it’s not something I’m used to being fully aware of. My mum borrowed my watch for about six months, and when I took it out of the drawer it had Central Euro time on it, instead of British, it was so long since I’d used it! I do have a mobile, but it’s seldom switched on. In the living room we have a clock as we have no TV or other electronics that have clocks. In the kitchen, though, we are awash with time! Microwave, cooker, boiler all have clocks.

Unless you need to be aware of the time (for catching a bus or going to work, I don’t think a watch is necessary because most of the time knowing the exact minute of the day really isn’t important.

I haven’t had a watch since I was 19 years old and I am now nearly 55. I just didn’t like feeling like a watch was in charge of me. I have a pretty good handle on time anyway, I am usually within 15 minutes of the correct time when I guess.
I also don’t use a cell phone. When I go someplace I like the idea that no one can bother me. I like to have alone time.

I haven’t worn a watch for about 30 years, amazingly I seem to be able to guess the time reasonably well but there are enough clocks in shops etc so that I never am late for an appointment!
